Foods For Your EyesEating healthy for weight loss is a practice that many people try throughout their lives. However, eating healthy has other benefits outside of simply trying to maintain a target weight or set point. As populations around the world continue to grow older, one of the biggest areas of importance on the body is the eyes. There are many devices that help people with hearing and balance, but far fewer that can help people once their eye sight goes away. On that end, it is important to feed our bodies with the proper foods that help slow the degeneration of the eyes. There are several super foods that help the body restore the eyes and make sure the aging process on the eyes are slowed. The more consistently these foods are eaten, the better off the eyes will be.

When people think of foods that are great for the eyes, one of the first foods that come to mind are carrots. Carrots are full of vitamins and minerals that benefit many different processes in the body. Carrots are full of Vitamin A and zinc, both of which are very helpful for the eyes. One particular fact about carrots that many people do not know is that there are different types. Smaller carrots typically have more sugar and less vitamins and minerals than larger breeds of carrots. In addition, buying organic carrots where pesticides and other outside sprays were not used in the growing process is a great way to ensure that you are putting only the best in your body.

One of the most under rated foods for your eyes are eggs. Although when people think of eggs they first think of protein, these foods are also full of zinc which helps the eyes tremendously. There are essentially two parts to an egg, the yolk and the egg white. Inside the yolk is the most vitamin and nutrient dense part, so it is important if you are eating eggs for their nutrition content that you eat the yolk as well.

Many people are concerned about the cholesterol content in eggs, and for this reason many people shy away from eating too many eggs. However, there have been a large number of studies conducted showing that dietary cholesterol does not necessarily raise the serum cholesterol in the blood. With this in mind, do not let worries about the cholesterol content in the eggs steer you away from eating them as part of your diet.

Finally, another set of foods that is great for anyone looking to fill their body with vitamins that benefit the eyes are berries. There are many different types of berries, all of which have different vitamins that benefit the body. Blueberries are commonly known as a super food, both due to their high vitamin content and their antioxidants that they offer the body. Like with carrots it is important to know that blueberries are best bought if they are organic, and will be well worth the extra investment in the long run.

Another set of berries that are great for the eyes are blackberries. The unique aspect of blackberries is that they have seeds on the outside of the berry unlike many other fruits and vegetables. Blackberries do not have as many antioxidants as the blueberries, but they have unique vitamins and minerals that other berries do not.

Final Thoughts

Overall, eating for health is one of the most important decisions that anyone can make in their lives. As people age, they tend to lose eye sight over time. However, by taking these steps and adding the listed foods to an overall balanced diet, you can slow the aging process on the eyes.
